Covered California discovers their premium assistance calculators are messed up

November 2014: It appears someone at Covered CA has noticed that their two calculators for estimating plan costs and amount of federal premium assistance do not give the same result. One calculator (Preview Plan Plans) add a year to the age of person and the other (Shop and Compare) does not. The gleeful announcement this (see below) is delivered as exciting news (little, yellow, special, different!!!!), instead of apologizing.

In other glitchy news, consumers who have signed up during open enrollment are being notified by letter they need to supply proof of minimum essential coverage, as if they were losing coverage from an employer group plan. In open enrollment, that is not necessary. If only you had a nickel for every time Covered CA has told people to ignore their letters…
